Abstract:
Vocational education is covered in this report on educational failure by the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ). The report summarises current education policies in England and gathers anecdotes from researchers and education providers on why disadvantaged young people tend to under-achieve. Among their findings, the CSJ criticise disparity in funding for disadvantaged learners in further education compared to secondary schools. They highlight that many of the most disadvantaged young people learn in further education (vocational) colleges, but colleges do not receive a pupil premium for these students, nor can they offer free school meals.
