In order to meet this requirement, as in other Statistics Netherlands [CBS] publications, this edition has been published as the second edition of the 2009 Education in Figures Yearbook. It gives information about numbers of students, institutes and expenditure in education. In addition, this edition makes special reference to the level of education in the population in relation to their position on the job market, the cost per graduate and international primary and secondary education. Also discussed are the study progress of secondary school students, students moving from pre-vocational [VMBO] to senior secondary vocational education [MBO] and the effect of final examination results in secondary education on the results in higher education. The Yearbook also examines education from an international perspective and explores pre-school and early education. These are some of the conclusions reached in this yearbook: Between 1998-2007, educational expenditure per diploma rose considerably, even after inflation correction. The actual cost of an MBO diploma rose most during this period, by almost 31 per cent, due mainly to the fact that the cost of programmes preceding MBO were higher. Further factors were the measures taken to push back early school leaving and the increase in extra support for pupils in the preliminary stage towards an MBO diploma. Eight in ten VMBO students transfer to MBO immediately after year 4, whereas 70% of them remain in the same sector as in VMBO.

Het jaarboek onderwijs in cijfers 2009 (2e editie) geeft informatie over aantallen leerlingen, onderwijsinstellingen en onderwijsuitgaven. Daarnaast wordt in deze editie extra aandacht besteed aan het opleidingsniveau van de bevolking in relatie tot de positie op de arbeidsmarkt, de uitgaven per geslaagde leerling en het internationale primair en voortgezet onderwijs. Ook komt aan bod de studievoortgang van leerlingen in het voortgezet onderwijs, de stromen van leerlingen die van het vmbo naar het mbo gaan en de invloed van de eindexamenresultaten in het voortgezet onderwijs op de resultaten in het hoger onderwijs. Verder wordt in dit jaarboek het onderwijs in een internationaal perspectief geplaatst en is er aandacht voor de voor- en vroegschoolse educatie.Enkele conclusies in dit jaarboek zijn:--In de periode 1998–2007 zijn de onderwijsuitgaven per diploma flink gestegen, ook als er gecorrigeerd wordt voor inflatie. De reële prijs van een mbo-diploma steeg in die periode het meest, met bijna 31 procent. Grotendeels komt dit doordat de kosten van de opleidingen in het voortraject naar het mbo hoger zijn geworden.Verder spelen onder andere de maatregelen mee die genomen zijn om voortijdig schooluitval terug te dringen en de toename van het gebruik van het leerwegondersteunend onderwijs in het voortraject naar een mbo-diploma.- Acht op de tien vmbo-leerlingen gaan na leerjaar 4 direct door naar het mbo.Zeventig procent van hen blijft op het mbo onderwijs volgen in dezelfde sector als op het vmbo. read less ...
