This publication presents national statistics regarding the admission of immigrants and other foreign-language speakers into initial and continuing vocational education and training in 2008-2009. In addition, the publication includes information on students with special needs and the participation of foreign-language speakers into preparatory instruction and guidance. The statistics indicate that the immigrants' study paths are different to those of Finnish-language speakers. Immigrants with low educational background face particular challenges when competing with other applicants. Also the retention rates in curriculum-based initial vocational education and training, for example, are higher among immigrants (some 15 %) than among native Finns (less than 10 %).
