Abstract:
This research shows that a huge part of the labour force in the Netherlands is being unused because the experienced generation is being ignored, while older employees are perfectly employable, because there appear to be no significant differences between the cognitive capacity of the different generations, and the wish to keep working keeps increasing. The experienced generation feels fit and seems to be perfectly capable to do modern knowledge work. In practice, insufficiently employing the experienced generation causes a huge destruction of capital for the labour market. Existing knowledge is wasted and vacancies are being unfilled for a needlessly long time. It is striking that this ‘experienced generation’ kept up with time and has learned how to manage new technology.
