Abstract:
It is a well-known fact that pupils in Hungarian schools are not provided equal opportunities. The research results presented in this volume sought to explore the factors behind such inequality which prevail already when starting the school. The research projects were based on concrete practical examples and used interdisciplinary research methods to explore the phase of entering the school. Unlike elsewhere in Europe, in Hungary it may be significant already at the age of 6 which school, or within that, in which class a pupil begins his/her primary school studies. Behind this early selection lie – beside the impacts of socialisation and individual abilities – the characteristics of the education system and local and national education policy, as well as the scientific views of psychology, pedagogy and special education.
