This study focuses on two central issues: (1) How should bachelor studies be designed in Austria to ensure that bachelor degree holders are qualified as excellently as possible for the world of work? (2) How should contextual conditions of bachelor studies be structured in Austria to support vocational qualifications as much as possible? At the background of this study there is the Bologna process. All in all, nearly 70 expert interviews were conducted. Most of these interviews were face-to-face talks on site, conducted in the period between the autumn of 2006 and the spring of 2007. The interviews were spread among the following three expert groups: companies; public or academic (extra-university) institutions; universities and Fachhochschule institutions. These interviews served to survey the views held by business enterprises, universities and Fachhochschule institutions in Austria, analyse them and put recommendations forward to discussion on that basis.
