The author explains the meaning of terms denoting basic groups of scientific disciplines and discusses in more detail the theses on the unity of deduction and empirical sciences and that of natural and social sciences. This can invite a thesis that there is only one science. An important element of the study is the methodological backwardness of social sciences. Therefore the ideation and systemic approach in pedagogical sciences and an analytical current in social sciences can be regarded as particularly interesting. In conclusion, it is emphasized that even though works in pedagogy contain different methodological orientations, their authors rarely specify what specific terms mean. Studies on particular orientations form the basis for individual reflection.
