Abstract:

This is the first review of activities undertaken in the Member States with a view to implementing the underlying policy goal: lifelong learning. The review covers initiatives at all levels of the learning process. Its special value lies in the fact that it goes beyond general statements and declarations, and takes into account strategies which are currently being implemented in different countries. It is also the first attempt to offer a summary picture of observable trends. In all these activities, educational systems are fully engaged, as they need to address the various needs and expectations of citizens of all ages who are interested in lifelong learning.
