Abstract:
One of the primary objectives of the European Council of Lisbon in 2000 was to make the European Union "the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world, capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion". These orientations remain valid, and have recently been relauched by the current President of the European Commission, inspiring the proposal of new guidelines for the European Employment Strategy. Among the most important aspects, it is worthy to recall the employment services, which have considerably reduced, though not eliminated, the gap between North-Central and Southern Italy through the renewal of the training system and the initiatives for equal opportunities.
