The purpose of this survey was to produce a model for forecasting the training and skills-related needs of the working life in the town of Uusikaupunki. The survey was part of a joint project, which was partly financed by the European Social Fund. In 2000, the town of Uusikaupunki started the amalgamation of three vocational schools. In 2001, these three schools were made into one comprehensive secondary level institution of vocational education called NOVIDA. The amalgamation is expected to have considerable effects on the working life in the area. In the amalgamation, it was important to consider all the training needs and forecasts that were voiced in the working life. According to new educational legislation, the training has to be organised so that it serves the needs of the working life in the area.
