Abstract:

This publication draws together the papers of a conference on the prevention of early school leaving. The conference was organised around two keynote papers depicting the national and European contexts with regard to early school leaving followed by four central themes each one addressed by an external expert and a practitioner. The themes addressed are as follows: early identification, support, monitoring and transition to second-level school; in-school supports i.e. counselling, groupwork, school self-help; engaging young people who did not progress to second-level school; and the role of parents, the school and the local community.  This publication draws together the papers of a conference on the prevention of early school leaving.
