Abstract:
This paper describes the state of affairs in education of Dutch as a second language (NT2) in a number of sectors and areas, i.e: elementary education, special education, education in ethnic minority languages, secondary education, and vocational training and adult education. This description is preceded by a general description of the central concept that the project group has chosen in its NT2 approach: language policy. In addition, the project group ponders the question of what still needs to be done in the years to come and where the money required to do it should come from. Furthermore, the consequences of language policy are discussed in relation to the supporting institutions, such as teacher training institutes, school advisory services and science institutes. The report is concluded with an overview of activities that the project group deems necessary to firmly root the NT2 range of ideas in educational practice.
