The Council of EC Ministers of Education decided that "all member states and their institutes should contribute to the improvement of the quality of higher education". This article presents the new evaluation system in Greece and the respective models in France,the UK and the Netherlands. The existing and future evaluation systems in other member states are also mentioned. Pilot programmes for the comparison of the evaluation systems are developing during the last years. In conclusion, the evaluation of higher education will contribute to the promotion and better functioning of Universities
